Cyriel Dessers transfer twist after ‘interesting’ agent reveal at Rangers

Cyriel Dessers was one of the players consistently linked with a move away from Rangers in the winter transfer window.

Cagliari were one of the teams pushing to sign the 30-year-old from the Gers before the 3 February deadline (Corriere Dello Sport, 27 January).

It wasn’t surprising to see Dessers being linked with another transfer, considering his lack of game time at Ibrox this season.

Cyriel Dessers agent makes ‘interesting’ transfer claim

Keith Jackson believes the fact that the Bears only wanted to sell Dessers mid-season is “interesting”.

The former Cremonese centre-forward’s agent, Stijn Francis, recently told Sporza, via voetbalnieuws, that there were 10 offers on the table for him to leave Ibrox on loan, but the Glaswegian outfit only wanted a permanent sale.

Speaking on Hotline Live (5 February), Jackson said: “The agent believes there was a significant number of clubs from Europe and abroad who were looking to get a loan deal done for Dessers and had approached him asking about the possibility of having a discussion about getting that done.

“There was no appetite for doing a loan deal. What’s interesting is the agent says Rangers only wanted to sell. When you think about it logically, what were they to gain by letting him leave on loan?”

Rangers make right call by keeping Cyriel Dessers

Hamza Igamane is the number one for now, and fans will be delighted to see their star forward get recognition on the international stage, as Walid Regragui could potentially call him up for Morocco in March.

After some impressive performances over the last few months, the 22-year-old has staked his claim as the first-choice number nine at Rangers.

Dessers has found his feet once again, though, and Philippe Clement has rightfully put his faith in the 30-year-old in recent matches.

Danilo is the other striker at the Belgian manager’s disposal and was ahead of the former Cremonese star before picking up an injury.

The Brazilian striker’s fitness issues have been frustrating, and it remains to be seen whether he can return to the team once he’s fit.

As a result, the Bears were evidently right to stick with Dessers until the end of the season, considering Danilo’s unavailability and Igamane’s dip in form.

The Gers face Queen’s Park at Ibrox on Sunday (9 February) in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

In the fourth round of the competition, the Nigerian ace scored three goals in a 5-0 win against Fraserburgh, and he may have the chance to replicate those heroics.
