Dessers ‘transfer decision clear’ after what happened in Rangers v Ross County

Rangers fans will have likely come to a transfer realisation regarding Cyriel Dessers as Rangers beat Ross County at Ibrox.

The Nigeria striker once again started for the Gers as they beat the Staggies 4-0 in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (2 February).

Dessers has been one of the most in-form players for Philippe Clement in recent weeks, scoring six goals in his last six appearances for the Light Blues prior to the Ross County game.

While the 30-year-old did not get on the scoresheet against Don Cowie’s team, he certainly made a better impression than some others during the match.

Dessers has been linked with a move away from Ibrox in recent weeks [La Gazzetta dello Sport, 1 February, page 30], but the Bears would do well to keep him after what happened against Ross County.

Cyriel Dessers to stay at Rangers after Hamza Igamane Ross County display

Hamza Igamane has undoubtedly been one of the revelations for the Gers this season, but the 22-year-old struggled at Ibrox.

The Moroccan was scrappy throughout the game, failing to make an impact before being substituted in the 74th minute.

BBC pundit Steven Thompson gave a blistering verdict of the Rangers youngster’s display against the Staggies after his overhead kick in the second half went into the Copland Road Stand.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound (2 February), Thompson said: “Well, there’s ambitious, and there’s ambitious. [Igamane] goes for the overhead kick 18 yards out, and that pretty much sums up his afternoon, that effort.”

While Igamane has curried enough favour among the Ibrox faithful to continue as the first-choice striker, Dessers has clearly demonstrated his importance in the squad.

It looked like the veteran centre-forward would be on his way out in the winter transfer window, but Danilo’s injury has given him a new lease of life at the Glaswegian outfit.

The former Cremonese striker will undoubtedly come in handy for the Light Blues until the end of the season, and the Bears’ hierarchy should not consider a sale before the transfer deadline.
