Nico Raskin moment in Rangers v Ross County baffles BBC pundit – ‘Abysmal’
Nico Raskin should have done better after an “abysmal” moment in the first half between Rangers and Ross County at Ibrox, Steven Thompson says.
The former Gers striker was disappointed with the Belgian midfielder’s header after a set-piece delivery into the opposition box from Ianis Hagi early in the first-half on Sunday (2 February).
Thompson was baffled by the Staggies’ defending during the play as the 23-year-old midfielder had an open header to score.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound (2 February), the Scotsman said: “The marking from Ross County is absolutely abysmal, and Raskin should do a lot better than he does.
“They’ve gone man for man in there and marked up, but for some reason, Raskin had escaped everybody’s attention, and he’s only 11 yards out when he makes the connection with that ball.”
Rangers to continue fine form with Ross County win
The Bears have been in fine form over the last few weeks, with Philippe Clement relying heavily on younger players.
Raskin, along with Hamza Igamane, have emerged as cornerstones for the Belgian manager’s plans at the Glaswegian outfit.
The Light Blues are in high sports after automatically qualifying for the knockout stages of the Europa League as they finished eighth in the table.
Cyriel Dessers has also seen a resurgence in the last few matches, scoring some important goals for Rangers.

Ross County have done well recently, losing just one of their last six Scottish Premiership fixtures, but the Ibrox faithful will expect the Gers to get the better of them.
Ianis Hagi opened the scoring in the 18th minute after a rather dull opening to the fixture, and the Romanian ace completed his brace with a deflected free-kick.
John Souttar scored the third as the game ended 3-0 after 45 minutes.
Clement needs to ensure his team comes out in the second half looking for more goals rather than wanting to contain Don Cowie’s men.
