Afonso Moreira to Rangers update as Sporting CP sources respond
Sporting CP forward Afonso Moreira is not a target for Rangers in the winter transfer window, according to Record Sport.
The news outlet reports (2 February) that the Gers’ links with the Portuguese winger are incorrect.
Sources at the Liga Portugal outfit have dismissed claims of the Light Blues wanting to sing the 19-year-old.
Afonso Moreira transfer links to Rangers dismissed
Moreira is an academy graduate at Sporting and spent time on loan at Gil Vincente in the 2023/24 season.
The youngster has struggled to break into the Lions’ senior squad, though, making links away from the Jose Alvalade Stadium understandable.
It wouldn’t be surprising if the Bears took a punt on a young talent like Moreira in the transfer window, considering the seeming shift to signing more younger players at Ibrox.
Nils Koppen has looked for talented prospects rather than signing players nearing the end of their careers.
Connor Barron and Hamza Igamane are two examples at Rangers of the apparent new strategy, and it has worked wonders for the Glaswegian outfit in hindsight.

The Moroccan striker has emerged as one of the best players for the Gers in recent matches, overtaking Cyriel Dessers in the pecking order.
Philippe Clement has also given Bailey Rice, Findlay Curtis and Zak Lovelace more minutes in the last few matches, showcasing the Belgian manager’s willingness to trust the youngsters.
While Moreira is yet to make an impact on the big stage, the Scottish Premiership could evidently be the perfect place for him to develop further.
But going by the report, it doesn’t look like a move to Glasgow is on the cards.
