Rangers ‘to accept decent bid for Cyriel Dessers’ before Monday deadline
Gary Keown believes Rangers must accept “a decent offer” for Cyriel Dessers regardless of a strong performance in the Europa League.
The Nigeria international was arguably the Gers’ standout player against Union SG in mid-week as a top-eight finish was confirmed at Ibrox.
The 30-year-old forward grabbed an assist in a 2-0 win but given all the interest in his signature this winter, Keown believes his time in Govan should be up.
Writing for the Scottish Mail on Sunday (2 February, page 89), he said: “Cyriel Dessers had a splendid game against Union Saint-Gilloise in midweek.
“But please Ibrox fans spare us a wide-ranging debate about whether he should be kept and whether he’s better than everyone thought and whether there might be some worth in holding onto him.
“He’s been here long enough to form an opinion. He’s missed too many sitters. Blown too many one-on-ones. Had too many nightmares. He is also 30 years of age.
“If Rangers get anything like a decent offer for him before the transfer deadline tomorrow night, he’s got to go. End of story.”
Rangers urged to accept bid for Cyriel Dessers
It is fair to say that there haven’t been many more divisive figures than the forward at Ibrox in recent years.
The Nigerian has arguably been the most frustrating player to watch for the Light Blues given how many chances he misses on a weekly basis.
This didn’t stop him from netting 22 goals while assisting a further seven in his debut season in the Scottish Premiership.
The ex-Genk forward has followed that up with 18 goals and five assists already this season in 36 appearances across all competitions.
It is proof that Dessers has the goalscoring ability to push the Gers forward but the issue is how many attempts he has to take on some days before he finds the net.

This could ultimately cost him and see him cast away from Ibrox before the 3 February deadline if a bid comes in which is deemed to be acceptable.
Given how little time there is in the window to sign a replacement, this could prove to be a huge risk for Philippe Clement and Co.
In other Rangers news, chiefs must be ready to pounce as a midfield target could now be set for an exit.
