Cyriel Dessers dubbed ‘Outstanding’ after what he did in Rangers win v USG

Neil McCann has hailed Rangers star Cyriel Dessers after his involvement in the second goal in the 2-1 win against Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday.

The Nigerian forward found Vaclav Cerny with a neat cutback to double the Gers lead in the 55th minute at Ibrox in the Europa League clash on 30 January.

The Bears went on to win the hotly contested clash despite a late reply from the Belgians which when combined with results elsewhere meant they qualified automatically for the round of 16.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound (30 January, 21:16 pm), McCann said: “Cyriel Dessers is outstanding in this phase of play.

“It’s a quite brilliant goal from Rangers.”

Cyriel Dessers reviving his Rangers career?

The Nigerian forward has been linked with an Ibrox exit throughout the winter transfer window but he may have revived his Gers career this month.

He has scored four goals and notched an assist in his last five matches in all competitions for the Govan club, even starting alongside Hamza Igamane.

That could lead to Philippe Clement deciding to keep him around rather than allowing him to depart with just days left to find a potential replacement.

Dessers wants to play regularly whether that be at Ibrox or elsewhere and he has played the full 90 minutes in the Gers’ last three of the last four matches.

That could persuade the attacker to pause any plans to leave that he may have had, especially given the form he has been in when given a chance.

It remains to be seen whether the veteran leaves Glasgow this month but he has certainly pleaded his case to stay with his recent performances.
