Steven Thompson has reacted after Leon King was caught in a "nasty" Rangers incident against USG at Ibrox on Thursday.

The Gers started the Europa League clash on 30 January on the front foot against the Belgian outfit but the Ibrox faithful were left wincing by one challenge.

King went up for a header with Ousseynou Niang and both players hit the deck, leading to the defender being forced off the pitch early.

Speaking live on BBC Sportsound (30 January, 8:02pm), Thompson said: "It's quite a nasty one actually.

"You're right to point out that Niang went down straight away and the referee looked over, stopped the play reasonably quickly and then King went down as well."

The 21-year-old was forced off with less than 15 minutes on the clock at Ibrox as a result of this challenge which ultimately went unpunished.

This will come as a blow to the Scotland under-21 international who had played just one minute in the Europa League before this point.

This came in the last game against Manchester United where the defender came on just before added time at Old Trafford.

As a result, it came as a surprise to see King amongst the starters at Ibrox but it felt like it was time for the youngster to prove himself in Govan.

It is therefore bitterly disappointing that the starting right-back was forced off so early into the clash on the night.

Both Philippe Clement and the Light Blues supporters will be hoping that he isn't out for an extended period and that his substitution was just a precaution.
