Ally McCoist was "gutted" for Rangers defender Leon King after he was injured in the 2-1 win over Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday.

The 21-year-old was forced off with a head injury in the 14th minute of the Europa League clash against the Belgian outfit at Ibrox.

Ross McCausland replaced King at right-back for the remainder of the clash at Ibrox as the Gers went on to qualify automatically for the round of 16.

Speaking on TNT Sports (30 January, 20:14 pm), McCoist said: "He was gesturing as if he had double vision.

"I'm absolutely gutted for him."

Rangers desperately unlucky with injury update

King was making his first start for the Govan side this season but was forced off after less than a quarter of an hour.

The Scotland Under-21 international has made just four senior appearances this campaign for a total of just 30 minutes as Philippe Clement has preferred to go with experienced options ahead of the youngster.

It was just his second appearance in the Europa League after he came on in the dying embers of the 2-1 loss to Manchester United last Thursday (23 January).

Finally given a start to prove himself by Clement, it will be a bitter moment for the youngster as he was denied the chance to take the opportunity.

Clement and supporters will be hoping that his substitution was a precaution and that he is not set for a long spell on the sidelines.

The Gers are already without Dujon Sterling and Neraysho Kasanwirjo in defence so would love to avoid another defensive injury.
