Chris Sutton shot down live on Sky Sports over Rangers player comment v Celtic
Chris Sutton was shot down by Neil McCann after he said that Ianis Hagi made “a total meal” of his first-half strike in Rangers win over Celtic on Thursday.
The attacker went on the break and penetrated the Bhoys’ defence which allowed him to open his body up and take a shot on the edge of the box, but it went wayward of the goal.
Rangers left Ibrox as 3-0 winners thanks to the Romania international’s opener but he could’ve upped his tally to two if he managed to bag his chance.
While Sutton believes the attacker was solely to blame for the missed strike, McCann seemed to have the opposite opinion.
“He’s made a total meal of that, Hagi,” Sutton said live on Sky Sports Main Event (2 January).
To which McCann replied: “I tell you what, I disagree, Chris. I think Bernardo comes in and just catches him.”
Sutton then ended the exchange with: “I knew you’d say that. I’m going to disagree with you.”
Ianis Hagi has brought a new lease of life to Rangers
The fact that Ianis Hagi wasn’t even part of Philippe Clement’s plans at the start of the season now seems quite hard to believe.
Indeed, the attacker was due a £6,000 wage bump [Daily Record, 13 August] if he made his 100th appearance for the Ibrox outfit, but it still feels silly that the Romania international was frozen out of the first team when the impact he’s had recently is taken into account.

Alongside Hamza Igamane, it feels like the duo have turned the fortunes of the Gers around tenfold and Clement could well have the dynamic duo to thank if he keeps his job until the end of the season.
Although Rangers managed to triumph at Ibrox and cut down the 14-point gap to 11, it feels like there’s still a long way for them to go until a title challenge can be spoken about confidently, even with the form Hagi is in at the moment.
