Kenny Miller drops ‘unacceptable’ Clement verdict ahead of Rangers v Celtic

Philippe Clement could be hounded out of Rangers if his side don’t secure an Old Firm win against Celtic on Thursday, says Kenny Miller.

The Belgian has come under fire at Ibrox in the past week after a defeat against St Mirren was followed by a draw against Motherwell on Sunday (29 December).

Now the ex-Monaco boss is looking ahead to a derby clash on Thursday (2 January), which Miller told talkSPORT could be the end of his time as Gers boss if they don’t win the Old Firm encounter.

The former striker responded to Alan Brazil who asked: “Clement is under unbelievable pressure. If it goes wrong today, are the fans going to hound him out?”

Miller replied: “I think they will, It’s already started, Alan. Being 14 points behind at this stage is completely unacceptable.

“To fall 17 points behind after losing to St Mirren and dropping points to Motherwell and then another potential Old Firm defeat, I just don’t see any way back after that.

“Even after a draw, it’s still 14 points behind which isn’t good enough at the halfway point of the season.”

The Light Blues manager is skating on thin ice in Govan right now and a negative home result in the derby could certainly spell the end of his tenure as the fans will be baying for blood.

There have been some positives in recent weeks with the Europa League win against OGC Nice being a particular high point.

Despite this, the lows outweigh the positive points, which could end up costing Clement his job in the coming days, weeks or months.

The lowest point in his career at Ibrox could prove to be another Old Firm defeat against Brendan Rodgers on 2 January.

If the Scottish Premiership title wasn’t already all but secured for the Hoops, a derby win would make the gap even more unattainable.

This would likely represent the end for the Belgian with the Gers as the new-look hierarchy makes their first big decision in charge.

A win could save Clement for the short term but results need to pick up on a consistent basis, which feels unlikely considering the pattern of the season so far.

In other Rangers news, Neil Warnock has described Philippe Clement as “disrespectful” after what he did.
