Shankland transfer: Fresh Rangers and Celtic transfer claim emerges overnight

Lawrence Shankland would annoy Hearts if he signs for Rangers or Celtic for free and starts to score goals again, according to Ryan Lowe.

The journalist reported to The Scottish Sun late on 28 December that the 29-year-old could join either of the Old Firm clubs for nothing as his contract runs down at Tynecastle Park.

The Scotland international has scored just three goals this campaign and the prospect of netting regularly for the Gers would be “an annoyance” to The Jam Tarts.

Lawrence Shankland could frustrate Hearts with Rangers move

The last two campaigns for the former Aberdeen man were simply superb, netting 59 goals in all competitions in Gorgie [FotMob].

This piqued interest across the Scottish Premiership in his signature but that has decreased somewhat with just three strikes in 18 starts.

Given that the Hearts forward is set to be available for free in the summer, it could still be worth the risk for Philippe Clement’s side to sign him.

With Cyriel Dessers coming under fire while Hamza Igamane continues to be linked with a move away, a new striker option could be necessary at Ibrox.

If the Govan club can convince Shankland to move to the blue side of the Old Firm, he is likely to be handed plenty of opportunities.

This could allow him to have the chance to frustrate his former employers at Tynecastle if he hits the ground running and scores regularly under Philippe Clement.
