Rangers in talks to sign Thomas Galdames as Godoy Cruz make permanent transfer decision

Rangers are among the clubs in talks to sign Thomas Galdames in this transfer window with current club Godoy Cruz needing the player gone this summer, according to Nahuel Ferreira on social media.

In a post on X [31 May], Radio Punto journalist Ferreira explains that Rangers are among two clubs outside of Argentina who are in negotiations with Godoy Cruz, whose last chance is in the current window to receive a fee for the 25-year-old left-back.

Galdames was watched by the Gers in a terrific performance in what could be his last game for the club – a 4-0 win over El Porvenir – with his contract expiring on December 31 and all parties eager to get a deal done now.

Ferreira shared: “Thomas Galdames has a contract with Godoy Cruz until December 31 and for now there was no agreement to extend it.

“That is why the club wants to transfer him in this market to have an economic return; they are negotiating [with] Rangers and another club from abroad. If they formalise the offers, he leaves.”

Rangers in full transfer market mode

Rangers are fully into the swing of their summer recruitment, and they have to be, with the size of the task at hand for Philippe Clement and the staff.

Though Chilean full-back Galdames has a similar positional profile to that of first summer signing Jefte, the club are expecting an exodus of players from Ibrox and require cover all over the pitch.

Another player from the Americas who Rangers had hoped to sign – Panama international Jose Cordoba – is thought to prefer a move to England with Norwich City in the frame, so the Light Blues must waste no time on moving onto other targets.

A Rangers representative is set to be present at the TransferRoom recruitment drive in Mexico next week, dubbed the transfer ‘speed-date’ event as the club tap further into the market west of Europe.

Expect three or four more through the Ibrox entrance door within the next couple of weeks.
