Rangers: Chris Sutton responds live on BBC to ‘seriously worrying’ Ibrox claim after Celtic loss
Chris Sutton says Glasgow is a “mad” place right now as both Rangers and Celtic fans are concerned about their respective sides’ title prospects.
Both teams tasted defeat this weekend – the first time that has happened since 2018 – in dramatic 24 hours or so in the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers were beaten 2-1 at home to Motherwell on Saturday (2 March), before Celtic went down 2-0 to Hearts on Sunday (3 March).
A caller named George rang up BBC Radio 5 Live‘s 606 call-in [3 March, 7:24pm] to say that the Gers’ performance was “seriously worrying”.
The caller went on to say that “even though they’ve won 11 in a row, hardly any of them have been convincing”.
In response, Sutton said: “It’s mad in Glasgow because both sets of fans are feeling the same way.
“It’s an interesting one. I was with Kris Boyd today – he kindly gave me a lift – and we were chatting after.
“Of course he was happy that Celtic lost, but they could have been five points clear now.
“Here’s one for you, George. What Philippe Clement has achieved since he’s come in, you’ve got to flip that. He’s found a way of winning games.
“The Kilmarnock game was a genuine banana skin but they came back to win. Overall, you must be delighted to be in this position right now.”
Rangers and Celtic neck and neck in title battle
Rangers supporters had better strap themselves in because there will be plenty more twists like this before the campaign ends.
For all the talk of the Gers running away with it after overhauling Celtic, that was never going to be the case.
With a couple of Old Firms also still to come, fans from both sides of the Old Firm divide cannot afford to get too confident.

Every defeat will bring concern, as in this instant; every victory will be welcomed as the result that potentially seals the title.
Sutton, as hard as this is to say, does make a good point. Rangers fans need to take a step back and remember where they were a few months ago.
The Motherwell defeat was a tough one to take, but supporters must simply continue getting behind the side in what will be a thrilling title battle from hereon in.
