Rangers: Kris Boyd delight at ‘last word’ at Neil Lennon live on Sky Sports after Celtic loss
Kris Boyd declared it a “good weekend for Rangers” after they extended their goal-difference by one over Celtic despite losing at Ibrox.
The Sky Sports pundit reacted live on the broadcaster’s match coverage of the Hoops’ defeat at Hearts (3 March), after Neil Lennon had admitted his former side’s failure to capitalise on the Gers’ home defeat by Motherwell a day earlier had given a “huge boost” back to Philippe Clement’s men.
Rangers remain two points clear at the top, leaving Boyd very pleased with the outcome after their 2-1 loss was followed by Brendan Rodgers’ 2-0 reverse at Tynecastle.
Lennon said (2.34pm): “As you were. Psychologically yesterday Celtic got a huge boost. Psychologically today Rangers get a huge boost, so we crack on.”
“Oh no, it’s been a good weekend for Rangers,” Boyd jumped in. “It’s been a good weekend. An extra goal ahead of Celtic.”
“Honestly, I thought you weren’t going to get the last word,” replied host Eilidh Barbour as the ex-Ibrox striker burst into laughter, “But you always do.”
Hearts hand Rangers title race boost after Motherwell win at Ibrox
Boyd likely wouldn’t have expected to get the opportunity to rub it in Lennon’s face after Stuart Kettlewell’s side recorded a first league win over Rangers in the best part of three decades.
Clement’s side have been excellent lately but fell well short of their usual standards in a surprise Ibrox defeat.
Having been 45 minutes from going five points clear a week ago the door was left open to hand back the SPFL lead already, so it is a lucky escape to come out of the weekend with the advantage (very narrowly) extended.
The Light Blues clearly can’t rely on their Old Firm rivals slipping up regularly so having been let off the hook they will need to come up with a clear response when they finally get back to league action in a fortnight.

Rangers have three games in the Europa League and Scottish Cup, against Benfica and Hibs respectively, in the mean time after which Clement will know whether he is still fighting on one, two or three fronts this term.
A dip was bound to arrive eventually after 11-straight wins so it is lucky to have come and not given up the lead in the title race, but it is unlikely that they can rely on a helping hand if it happens again.
In other Rangers news, a pair of damning accusations were levelled at a senior Gers ace at Ibrox by a BBC Sport pundit.
