Rangers and Celtic footage shared by Bobby Madden as ex-referee fans the flames

Bobby Madden has risked fanning the flames by sharing footage of controversial incidents in the games involving Rangers and Celtic this weekend.

A number of big calls were made in both the Gers’ 2-1 loss to Motherwell on Saturday (2 March) and Celtic’s 2-0 reverse away at Hearts on Sunday (3 March).

Dan Casey dodged being sent off for a strong challenge on Ross McCausland, before ultimately going on to score the winning goal to stun Ibrox.

Madden also shared footage on his personal Twitter and Instagram accounts [3 March] of Yang Hyun-jun’s high boot on Alex Cochrane, which landed him a red card.

Former FIFA referee Madden responded to the footage with a popcorn emoji and a face with a closed zipper, implying he would not comment further on the incidents.

Rangers and Celtic both fall to defeat

It inevitably led to fans from both sides of the Old Firm divide chiming in with their thoughts on an action packed weekend full of twists, turns and drama aplenty.

Brendan Rodgers was fuming after Celtic’s loss to Hearts, while Philippe Clement also felt decisions went against Rangers in the defeat against Motherwell.

The standard of officiating in the Scottish Premiership has repeatedly been called into question this season, but at least Rangers and Celtic are divided in feeling they have been wronged.

And given the tight nature at the top of the division, you have to fear that the title could well be decided by a contentious refereeing decision.
