Rangers: Tom English shares ‘good’ verdict after Celtic defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle
BBC Sport journalist Tom English says defeats for Rangers and Celtic this weekend can only be a “good” thing for the Scottish Premiership.
The Gers were on the end of a surprise 2-1 loss to Motherwell at Ibrox on Saturday (2 March) in a rare setback for Philippe Clement’s men.
Celtic failed to capitalise as they lost 2-0 to Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday (3 March), meaning they remain two points adrift of the leaders.
Writing on his personal Twitter page [3 March], English said: “Great wins for Motherwell and Hearts yesterday and today.
“No offence, but bloody noses for the Glasgow two always good for the league.”
Rangers retain two-point lead over Celtic
For those Rangers fans that left Ibrox extremely frustrated and, let’s face it, somewhat anxious, they will be feeling a lot better 24 hours on.
We are often told to expect twists and turns aplenty in title tussles, and so that has proved on this hugely dramatic weekend.
Nobody expected the Gers to slip-up at home to Motherwell, but that is what can happen.
Put it this way, it will unlikely be the last game the Light Blues lose between now and the end of the Scottish Premiership campaign.
Nor will Celtic win every game, and the performance against Hearts – or lack of – is of huge encouragement to all Rangers supporters.
The Gers remain just about in the driving seat and will hopefully now string together another winning run.
Hibernian will have other ideas in the cup next weekend, and that is another fixture Clement’s charges simply cannot afford to take lightly.
In other Rangers news, a Gers player was targeted by multiple Russian clubs in the January transfer window.
