Rangers want to sign AZ Alkmaar winger Albert Gudmundsson
Rangers are hot in the race to sign AZ Alkmaar winger Albert Gudmundsson, according to Mike McGrath.
The Telegraph journalist has shared that Old Firm rivals Celtic are also in the race with the two clubs set to go head-to-head.
Gudmundsson has only six months left on his current deal and can negotiate a pre-contract from next month in January for a free transfer in the summer.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst has clearly identified a new winger as one of his priorities for the winter window at Ibrox.
The Dutchman loves his winger to play as wide as possible, and Ryan Kent is the only out-and-out wide man in this squad.
The likes of Scott Wright, Fashion Sakala and Ianis Hagi play on the other flank and are often caught coming inside too much.
Gudmundsson would be a bargain and would bring more international experience to Glasgow after his time with Iceland.
Get it done.
Just one look at the Scottish Premiership table will tell Gudmundsson all he needs to know ahead of a potential move to Glasgow.
The Bears are currently seven points clear and are running away with things after the arrival of van Bronckhorst at the club.
The 24-year-old being available on a free would be sensational business, and it fits the financial mould that Ross Wilson and his team have likely been set.
Gudmundsson has scored four and added one assist in his 16 Eredivisie appearances, including two of those off the bench against Willem last week.
Improving the squad is critical, and it looks as though Wilson will be in the market for some more bargains in January – we already can’t wait.
