Richard Gough reacts to celebrations of Rangers fans after title 55

Richard Gough has hit back at criticism of Rangers fans for their celebrations after the Bears were named champions of the Scottish Premiership.

Glasgow City Council took aim at Gers fans, labelling their reactions as disturbing and deplorable as some damage was spotted.

Gough admitted that after watching footage from George Square, he couldn’t see many people doing anything wrong.

Speaking on the Blues Brothers Podcast on Monday evening, Gough said that the only surprise was that there weren’t more fans.

“I’ve had a lot of questions over the pandemic,” he said.

“I said that the emotion that is going through all Rangers supporters right now winning that league, I’m surprised there weren’t more people out on the streets.

“There was a pent up emotion. I’ve seen a few of the videos from George Square, and there didn’t look like there was any trouble.”

Rangers

Nicola Sturgeon has become very vocal this week, slamming Rangers for their response to the fans celebrating outside Ibrox on Saturday and Sunday.

Steven Gerrard responded perfectly, claiming that it was down to the police and the government to help with that – especially after conversations had been held about that.

Gough knows what it means to win at Rangers, having made over 200 appearances and lifting numerous trophies, and he made a perfect point.

A huge number of these fans haven’t seen their side or can’t remember them lifting the Scottish Premiership, and this moment has come after years of hurt and humiliation.

All eyes are on the Bears, the same happened with the likes of Liverpool in England, this moment has been a long time coming.
