Report – Rangers star Morelos snubs lucrative Qatari transfer offer
Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has turned down a lucrative offer to move to Qatari side Al Duhail, according to the Daily Mail.
The national outlet reported recently that the Colombian striker was the subject of a £15 million interest from the Middle Eastern outfit this summer.
But it is understood that a move is unlikely to happen, with the player himself uninterested.
Instead, it is believed that Morelos would be keen to join a club in one of Europe’s top leagues.
French side Rennes are said to be keeping tabs on him, but as yet have not made an offer.
The Mail also point out that Morelos has stated recently that he is content with life in Glasgow.
They also report that Rangers would be looking to secure a fee in excess of £15 million for the striker, and have previously snubbed offers from both Dynamo Kiev and Bordeaux.
What can we make of this?
It’s certainly not bad news, that much is for sure.
Whatever you think of Morelos’ form in 2020, finding a striker who can hit 29 goals a season is not going to be an easy task, and if he does depart this summer it’s going to leave Rangers with a real job on their hands.
Of course, £15 million wouldn’t come in wrong for Steven Gerrard’s summer rebuild plans, but you would assume that a significant portion of that would have to be spent on finding a hitman who could hold a candle to Morelos.
Billy Dodds recently said that he would “cash in” on the South American in the coming weeks, but we mustn’t underestimate just how important he is just because of a few lean months in front of goal.
With interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid and Saint Etienne also reported, don’t be surprised to see the Gers’ resolve tested again by clubs who could offer more realistic destinations for Morelos this summer.
