'I would cash in' - Billy Dodds suggests Rangers should look to sell Morelos this summer
Billy Dodds has claimed that cashing in on Alfredo Morelos could be the key to Rangers preventing Celtic from winning a tenth consecutive league title next season.
The Gers have already been busy in the transfer this summer, completing deals for Ianis Hagi, Calvin Bassey, and Scotland goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin.
But Dodds believes that the club are not finished with their rebuild, and should look to use the money from Morelos’ potential sale to help them close the gap on their bitter rivals further.
Discussing the possibility of whether or not Rangers would be willing to accept a bid of around £15 million for the 24-year-old in the coming weeks, Dodds told BBC Sportsound: “I’ve always said I think Rangers have to go another route when it comes to Alfredo Morelos.
“If they get that sort of money, I would certainly be thinking of cashing in – and I’m sure Steven Gerrard is thinking that himself.
“There is talk of a few strikers going to Rangers.

“So if that kind of money comes in, and I’m not sure it will, if I was Steven Gerrard, I would cash in and try to go another direction in stopping Celtic winning 10 in a row.”
Should Rangers cash in on Morelos?
There’s no simple answer to that question, and it’s a quandary that Steven Gerrard will no doubt have been thinking about for a while now.
Ultimately, the outcome will probably depend on how much money the Gers can get for their star man.
It wasn’t so long ago that we were hearing fees of £25 million or more being thrown about.
Given his dip in form in 2020, as well as the financial impact of the Coronavirus pandemic, that kind of price seems highly unlikely now.
But if the Gers could still secure around £15 million, as Dodds is discussing here, they could replace the Colombian and still have plenty left over to reinvest.
When you consider the fact that two of the main targets being linked with a potential move to Ibrox are Lyle Taylor, who is available on a free, and Lyndon Dykes, who available for around £2 million, £15 million looks like a very healthy income.
Whether Gerrard believes that either of those players is capable of replicating the 29 goals that Morelos has scored this season, however, is another matter entirely.
