Ibrox Exclusive: Alex Bruce claims Ryan Kent can be 'big asset' for Rangers in 'huge' 20/21
We’re delighted to welcome former Scottish Premiership defender Alex Bruce as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers…
Alex Bruce has defended Rangers winger Ryan Kent against claims that he has lost some of his “magic” at Ibrox over the course of the past season.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Kilmarnock defender suggested that the ex-Liverpool man can be a “big asset” for Steven Gerrard’s men next term as they bid to prevent Celtic from winning a tenth consecutive league title.
Bruce’s comments come after former Gers defender Richard Foster criticised Kent’s form this season, arguing that he had lost some of his spark and was “not the same guy” who won the Scottish PFA’s Young Player of the Year award in 2018/19.
But Bruce has been dismissive of the claim.
When asked if Kent would feel the pressure of comments such as Foster’s during an interview with Ibrox News, he said: “Is there pressure on Ryan Kent’s shoulders?

“I don’t really know what the fella [Foster] is talking about to be honest because I’ve certainly heard about Ryan Kent a lot more than I’ve heard of him, that’s for sure.
“I think you’ve got to be respectful to players. He’s still a young lad, but he’s shown when he’s on top form, Ryan Kent, what a good player he can be.
“I’m sure this season will be a huge season for Ryan, and if he can play to his capabilities, he will be a big asset in the team.”
Kent registered eight goals and four assists over the course of 33 outings for the Gers this season.
By comparison, he managed six goals and nine assists in 43 matches during his debut season in Glasgow.
We think he can kick on and prove himself on the big stage next season.
