'Happy days' - Many Rangers fans delighted by announcement on new deal for Stephen Kelly

Rangers fans have taken to social media to express their delight at young midfielder Stephen Kelly signing a new deal at the club.

The Gers announced on Wednesday evening that the 20-year-old has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal at Ibrox that will keep him in Glasgow until at least 2023.

They also confirmed that the energetic talent will be joining Scottish Premiership side Ross County on loan for the 2020/21 campaign.

The agreement will include a break clause in January, allowing Rangers to recall their player partway through the season if they see fit.

As far as we’re concerned, this is a wonderful update.

Kelly adores the Gers through and through, and comes from a big family of Ibrox loyalists who will all be ecstatic to see him pen a long term deal at his boyhood club.

And it’s no more than he deserves either following a superb spell with Ayr United this season.

The midfielder hit six goals and four assists during his time with the Championship outfit, and even picked up their Young Player of the Year award recently.

With a shot accuracy rate that was 8.2% higher than Scott Arfield’s, as per Wyscout, as well as completing 3.3% more dribbles, and winning 2.6% more of his duels, it’s fair to say that he was operating at a high level, and that output is only likely to improve as he gets older.

Alan Hutton has revealed that Kelly is one of the most hotly tipped prospects in Glasgow at the moment, and tying him down for another three years feels like a no-brainer.

Here’s hoping that a good loan spell in the top flight next term can set him up nicely to play a starring role for the Gers in the relatively near future.
