‘Perfection’ – Chris Sutton issues Twitter reaction to Rangers win v Braga
Chris Sutton has taken to Twitter to hail Steven Gerrard and his Rangers side for their Europa League victory over SC Braga on Wednesday evening.
The Gers travelled to Portugal with a slender lead after a 3-2 win at Ibrox last Thursday, and subsequently built on that advantage thanks to a well-taken Ryan Kent goal just after the hour mark.
Gerrard’s men now advance to the Round of 16 after a 4-2 aggregate victory, and were even treated to a rare compliment from pundit and ardent Celtic loyalist Chris Sutton.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said: “Well done to Rangers and Steven Gerrard.
“The players followed out the game plan to perfection tonight…”
How good were Rangers on Wednesday night?
In a word, fantastic.
Of course, we don’t need Sutton to confirm it to us, but the fact that he was even willing praise the Gers in a public sphere should be testament as to just how impressive they were.
They may have only had 30% possession, but they were by far the more efficient side, as exemplified by their five shots on target to Braga’s one.
This was a brilliant illustration of how effective a well-planned counter attacking system can work away from home, especially when you’re facing a side who need to come at you hell for leather.
Gerrard must be given plenty of kudos for this display, and his managerial nous was on exhibition for all to see.
Some fans were disgruntled by his decision to bench Joe Aribo prior to kick-off, but even that was vindicated by this superb display.
A big, big win for the Gers.
