Rangers fans have been left bemused Steven Gerrard’s decision to bench Joe Aribo for the Gers’ Europa League clash against SC Braga on Wednesday evening.
The Light Blues go into the clash with a slender 3-2 lead after having staged a dramatic comeback in the first meeting between the two sides at Ibrox last week.
But despite that advantage, many supporters were less than pleased with the boss’ decision to leave out the 23-year-old Nigeria international.
Aribo has been a rare bright spark during a patchy spell for the Gers, and was even on the scoresheet last Thursday evening, bringing his side back into the tie with a superb solo effort after coming on for the last 40 minutes.
And many feel that is performance merited a chance to start this time around.
To be fair, it’s not hard to see why.
Aribo managed a 100% dribble success rate against Braga last week, as well as a 100% shot accuracy rate, and a pass completion rate of 83%, as per Wyscout.
Perhaps Gerrard is hoping for a similar impact from the bench this evening, but it does feel like an unnecessary gamble on the manager’s part to include Aribo from the outset.
Here are some of the best reactions from supporters on social media…
Kent starting infront of Aribo is an absolute joke, apart from that It's the best we have.
