Rangers were heavily linked with Fares Ghedjemis in the summer transfer window.

The Gers made a big push to add new wingers to their squad in the final weeks of the transfer window

The likes of Daisuke Yokota, Minsu Kim and Badredine Bouanani were all brought to the club to fix an area that Derek McInnes was keen on improving.

But Ghedjemis was always a key target for the Bears, as they had an offer in the region of £8million turned down by Frosinone.

Celtic were also keen, but it was the Italian side were holding out for a fee worth up to £17m, which neither Old Firm clubs wanted to pay.

However, Ghedjemis' agent has spoken out, and interest in the winger is clearly still active.

Fares Ghedjemis' agent reveals phone call after contract news

Ghedjemis recently signed a new contract with Frosinone, extending his stay with the Serie B club from 2028 to 2030.

If Rangers thought that the Italian club's valuation of the 24-year-old was too high before, then it's hard to see how they could afford him now.

However, that does not prevent the Gers from scouting ahead of a potential future transfer, because anything can happen in football.

Fabrizio Ferrari has spoken after Ghedjemis signed a new deal with the club, revealing there is still interest in his client from outside of Italy.

The agent made some statements while speaking on Salite sulla giostra, a broadcast conducted by Raffaele Auriemma on Stile TV.

Ferrari said: "Abroad, the boy had had many offers, three from very big clubs playing in Europe. Frosinone made a huge effort not to sell the player by giving up an important transfer.

"There is already someone who has asked me for information about Ghedjemis, but from abroad. This morning they called me to tell me that they will come see him. In Italy, in October, everything is at a standstill; no one thinks about the winter market.

"The problem is that in Italy no one relies on young people who come from Serie B; they always tend to buy from abroad."

Could Rangers be sending scouts to see him in person? Well, this doesn't rule anything out.

Frosinone president Maurizio Stripe revealed that Frosinone's new owners, Clara Vista, refused to let the forward leave.

Stripe said: "I would have sold him. He stayed because Clara Vista stubbornly made him stay."

Perhaps the £17m price tag was to scare the likes of the Light Blues and the Hoops away.

Why Andrew Cavenagh admission may give Rangers January answer on Ghedjemis

Rangers were keen on Ghedjemis for a large part of the summer window, and they may not want their time to go to waste.

There's every chance that the Govan side will go against signing Bouanani permanently next summer, or that Findlay Curtis could leave on loan, which will open up room for the Bears to sign a new right-winger.

However, January could be too early for the Gers to revisit a deal for Ghedjemis, especially if Andrew Cavenagh's latest words are anything to go by.

The chairman told the Rangers Fan Advisory Board, as quoted by The Scottish Sun: “Don’t expect much activity in January unless something happens which means they need to go into the market.

"Focus for the club is on stability & continuity after a volatile first season and the summer."

That said, it's hard to see why Rangers would spend more than £10m on one player.

But Ghedjemis may be a name to remember for the future.
