The steps set to be taken next on 'revelation' Fares Ghedjemis after Rangers bid

Rangers may have missed out on any realistic chance they have of signing Fares Ghedjemis.

The Gers were strongly linked with the Frosinone winger in the summer, as were Old Firm foes Celtic.

In the end, neither club managed to get their hands on Ghedjemis as he remained with the Serie A club instead.

Rangers bid £8.5m for Ghedjemis, but it soon became clear they were not even close as Frosinone were after more than £17m.

Derek McInnes will be happy with the business conducted by his side even without Ghedjemis in the squad.

And it is now pretty clear he will not be joining down the line, either, amid a new update emerging out of Italy.

Frosinone ready to act on Fares Ghedjemis after summer interest

Rangers and Celtic are just two of many clubs who wanted to sign the Algeria international.

Thursday's print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport names the Scottish pair, as well as Besiktas and Monaco, as teams who were in active talks to sign the attacker.

However, the same report adds that Frosinone are now hard at work to tie Ghedjemis down to a new contract.

The articles describes the 24-year-old as a "revelation" in Serie B last season, as his 15 goals and three assists in 37 games helped Frosinone to promotion to Serie A.

Ghedjemis is now unlikely to leave Stadio Benito Stirpe when he puts pen to paper on a new deal - or certainly not for the previous fee mooted.

Where would Ghedjemis have fitted in at Rangers?

Ghedjemis plays out on the right wing, so he certainly would have come in handy for McInnes in that area.

A number of different options have been used there, including Kim Minsu and Ryan Naderi.

Kim is finding his feet and Naderi has hit the ground running this season.

So it is fair to say that, while Ghedjemis would have been a nice addition, he is not exactly needed at Ibrox - and certainly not for the original fee cited, let alone even more.
