Rangers are expected to imminently sign James Penrice or Jayden Meghoma.

The AEK Athens defender and Brentford youngster are the two left-backs on the Gers' radar.

In the next 24 hours, the Light Blues will decide who they want to get to provide cover for Tuur Rommens, who is expected to be out injured for more than a month.

The Ibrox hierarchy are continuing to work on their recruitment and have various options amid interest in Penrice and Meghoma.

Last season, the 20-year-old Englishman was on loan at the Glaswegian outfit and played a prominent role before Rommens' arrival in January.

As for the Scottish left-back, he joined AEK last summer from Hearts but could finally work under Derek McInnes in Govan.

Rangers preference emerges between James Penrice and Jayden Meghoma

Meghoma's return to Ibrox has been gaining momentum, with talks held over a new deal, but the Gers fans aren't really too excited by that prospect.

The Light Blues have been forced into making a move for a new left-back after Rommens' fitness issue.

According to the Daily Record on 13 August, the Glaswegian outfit have narrowed down their options for defensive reinforcements.

The Govan side want to give McInnes a new left-back before the Premier Sports Cup game against St Mirren on 16 August.

To that end, Penrice has emerged as the preferred option if the Bears can get him on loan, but AEK prefer a sale for now.

Discussions with the Greek club are ongoing and it remains to be seen whether the 27-year-old defender will finally return to Scotland.

Why Derek McInnes may not be pulling transfer strings at Ibrox

Mohamed Diomande has completed a move to Corum from Rangers.

The Cote d'Ivoire international looked to be a key player for McInnes at the Gers after featuring heavily during pre-season.

In the opening two games of the 2026-27 campaign, the midfielder started for the Light Blues before being left out of the squad against Hibernian.

While the Scottish manager may have wanted Diomande to stay, it looks like the Glaswegian outfit felt it was the right time to cash in on him.

How McInnes' squad will shape up in the final weeks of the transfer window is anyone's guess.
