Derek McInnes is looking to add another midfielder to his squad as Ryan Fosso emerges in Rangers' eyeline.

The Sturm Graz midfielder has been impressing out in Austria, and after just six months with the Austrian Bundesliga side, is already being viewed for an exit.

The future of Nicolas Raskin very much remains up in the air. Premier League, La Liga and Serie A interest points to his time being up.

And if that sale goes through, it would only further increase the need for added legs in the midfield.

McInnes is certainly not short of options in the market amid the latest reports surrounding Rangers' pursuit of multiple midfielders.

But now the latest on where the Bears stand in the hunt for Fosso has emerged.

How likely are Rangers to sign Ryan Fosso?

Fosso has been linked with Rangers, in what would not be the first piece of business between the Bears and Sturm Graz.

In January 2026, the Gers brought Tochi Chukwuani from the Austrian side to the Scottish Premiership.

Fosso was Chukwuani's replacement, and the Govan-based club could be set for a second dip into the Austrian market, but are they really?

Well, that does not seem to be the case, as according to the Daily Record's print edition on 10 July, the Gers are not actually in the hunt for the Cameroon international.

Instead, McInnes' side are focused on securing deals for Tromso's Jens Hjerto-Dahl, with "a bid on the table."

Meanwhile, FK Partizan's Vanja Dragojevic remains firmly on the radar with talks still ongoing with the Serbian side.

But Fosso is currently not in Rangers' plans despite reports emerging out of Austria.

Are Rangers missing out by not targeting Fosso?

Fosso may have been an excellent fit for Rangers as they look to push for the Scottish Premiership title and that is based on Sturm Graz' sporting directors words.

After Sturm Graz announced his arrival back in January 2026, he stated: "Ryan Fosso brings not only tremendous athleticism but also game intelligence, dynamism, and the right mentality – many of the qualities we were looking for in this position.

"At just 23 years old, he possesses great potential, but also already has considerable experience and has proven his abilities in the top Dutch league."

This transfer window, the Glasgow side have been focused on bringing experience and leadership to Ibrox.

And with Fosso still being young and touted to have "considerable experience" he could have been a good fit for McInnes.

Nonetheless, it is not like the Bears are left scrambling for a midfield signing, with both Hjerto-Dahl and Dragojevic still contenders for a move.
