Derek McInnes' may continue his Rangers rebuild with Ryan Fosso.

The 24-year-old only signed for Sturm Graz in January, but the Gers could poach him already.

The Light Blues raided the Austrian giants for Tochi Chukwuani last winter, and they may follow that route again.

Rangers are leading the race to sign Fosso, sitting ahead of several La Liga and Serie A clubs.

The defensive midfielder only joined the Austrian club six months ago for a £900,000 fee, but he could link up with the Govan side shortly.

One particular aspect of his game will excite the new Ibrox boss if he ends up making the move.

What is so impressive about Ryan Fosso's game?

Fosso excels physically, covering an average of 9.7km per match in the Austrian Bundesliga.

However, his sprint speed is what will make McInnes value his signature more than anything else, as shown by Sofascore.

He recorded a high of 21.12mph in his time in Graz, which would make him one of the fastest players in the Scottish Premiership.

For reference, Harry Milne of Hearts is regarded as the fastest player in the division, with a top speed of 21.74mph.

Celtic's Daizen Maeda is another who is considered rapid, and he recorded a top summer speed of 20.62mph in Japan's round of 16 World Cup clash with Brazil.

How does Rangers target fare in other areas?

Fosso needs improvement in other areas of his game, that is clear.

His passing is one area which needs to be better if he joined the Light Blues, as he completed 75 per cent of his attempts in Austria.

Defensively, he made 1.2 tackles, 3.1 balls recoveries and 0.8 clearances per game, which is not good enough for McInnes' side.

In terms of duels, he won 48 per cent on the ground and 33 per cent in the air, which needs to be better in Scotland when the going gets tough.

The Bears may well be buying the player for the potential of what he could be, rather than what he is right now, as his data does not jump off the page.

His speed may be impressive, but it is not enough to sanction a move for the Cameroon man.
