McInnes has to take a lot of the blame for Rangers' poor opening month to the 2026-27 campaign.
So much more was expected of the Gers after some quick action earlier in the summer window.
But it is now a frantic sprint to get more deals over the line prior to the deadline next Thursday.
As per an update from transfer specialist Sacha Tavolieri via X, Balde to Rangers is still on as of Saturday.
The 23-year-old has been in red-hot form this season, having netted five goals in four matches.
That includes a strike in Friday's 2-2 draw with Pau in Ligue 2.
Tavolieri adds that Kevin Kelsy's move to Rangers is not over the line just yet.
However, everything points towards Kelsy becoming Rangers' next signing.
Is Ibrahima Balde really the right option for Rangers?
Rangers fans can be forgiven for questioning the owners' disjointed transfer activity this summer.
It has left the Gers spending big on Kim Min-su, having previously failed to pay a smaller fee for other players on their radar.
And a large sum is also expected to go on Kelsy, who not many - if any - fans would have heard of a few weeks back.
Exactly how much Balde will cost is not known, but his past record is not exactly all that exciting.
Still, his return this campaign in the French second tier is pretty good this season and he could well be a hidden gem signing.
It is then over to McInnes, if he is given time, to get the most out of what he is left with come the close of the window.
