John Souttar will fly to Greece on Sunday to complete his exit from Rangers.

The centre-back is travelling to South-Eastern Europe on 13 September, with the transfer window still open there.

Derek McInnes hasn't relied on the Scotland international since taking over the Gers and it isn't surprising to see him leave.

What was a bit odd is the Ibrox hierarchy's inability to offload Souttar before the 3 September transfer deadline in Scotland.

There are still five days left before the deadline in Greece and it looks like the 29-year-old has finally decided on his next destination.

McInnes' reluctance to rely on the ex-Hearts defender has been confusing, but he's now set to move for regular minutes elsewhere.

McInnes recently confirmed Souttar's exit from the Gers was in the works.

According to Sportal on 10 September, Aris have reached an agreement with the Light Blues to sign the Scottish centre-back.

The Greek side have been looking for defensive reinforcements and have landed on Souttar as the "chosen one".

Once the defender arrives in Greece, he will sign a three-year contract to officially complete his move to Aris.

It's not like Souttar was being used by McInnes at Rangers, but he was still an option they could've turned to in desperate times.

Emmanuel Fernandez has had a poor start to the season with some inconsistent performances.

Olwethu Makhanya seems to be settling in at the Gers and looks like a decent signing.

Ben Godfrey picked up an injury early in the campaign and hasn't played much football since.

McInnes has just three natural options at centre-back, although Ross McCrorie and Dujon Sterling are capable of providing cover in the position.

It will be interesting to see whether the Glaswegian outfit pursue a new central defender once the transfer window reopens in January.

While the Govan side are out of Europe, a couple of simultaneous injuries at the back could give the Scottish manager a massive headache, making Souttar's exit a gamble.
