All the destinations open to John Souttar as Derek McInnes confirms Rangers exit on

Derek McInnes has confirmed John Souttar remains in talks to leave Rangers this month, with a small number of possibilities still open.

Souttar has yet to featured under McInnes this campaign, having also been overlooked during pre-season.

The Scotland international was linked with moves elsewhere in Scotland and also south of the border during the summer transfer window.

However, both of those exit routes closed off when the transfer window closed last week for teams in Scotland and England to sign players.

But McInnes revealed on Tuesday that Souttar could yet leave, with some countries still able to conduct business.

What has Derek McInnes said about John Souttar?

It had been suggested Souttar could return to the Rangers XI - let alone the squad - after a move failed to materialise.

McInnes said he is not against the 29-year-old - hailed "different class" by international teammate Andy Robertson in 2024 - being integrated back into the fold.

But right now, Souttar's focus is on getting a move away from Ibrox.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday ahead of the clash with St Mirren, McInnes said: "I think he still can [play a part] but the likelihood is that John has been told that his long-term future would be best served elsewhere.

“He still has good opportunities to move. There’s a few windows still open in Europe and there is a few things looking possible for John.

“I don’t want to speculate too much but I think there are one or two things he’s quite keen on getting a bit of traction."

So which windows remain open for Souttar?

The Saudi window remains open for a while longer yet, but McInnes did specifically mention Europe.

The vast majority of countries around Europe closed their windows for transfer business last week.

It remains open in Cyprus until Wednesday, though, while it is still open in Greece for exactly another week.

Realistically, those sound the best options for Souttar from the outside looking in.

The transfer window also remains open for teams in Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Serbia, Switzerland and Slovakia.

If he is to leave Rangers, it seems joining a team competing in a UEFA competition would make most sense for Souttar.

As McInnes revealed, there are potentially a couple of realistic possibilities open to the defender.

But whether or not they come to anything, only time will tell.
