What Wolves' interest in Amario Cozier-Duberry means for Rangers' transfer pursuit
Rangers' position in the race to sign Amario Cozier-Duberry may have changed.
Derek McInnes has made no secret of the fact he wants Rangers to sign a winger or two before the transfer window closes.
With a move for Couhaib Driouech falling through, alternative targets are now being eyed at Ibrox.
Cozier-Duberry's name has been linked to Rangers throughout the summer, having shone on loan with Bolton Wanderers last season.
Now back at parent club Brighton, it seems as though he's not currently in Fabian Hurzeler's first-team plans at the Amex.
But as Gers look to try and push through a deal for the England youth international, a new rival threatens to derail their efforts.
What has been said about Wolves' interest in Rangers-linked Amario Cozier-Duberry?
Rangers reportedly had a £7million bid rejected for Cozier-Duberry earlier this week.
That was the Bears' second official attempt to prize the young winger away from Brighton this summer, who are holding out for a premium fee.
And now, Rangers' inability to come to an agreement as of yet has opened the door for Wolves to join the hunt.
Wolves reporter for Express & Star Liam Keen has claimed via X on Tuesday that Wanderers are now exploring a move for Cozier-Duberry.
Keen claims that Wolves do have other targets in mind, but it's a position where the newly-relegated Championship side want to do business at.
So, just how worried should Rangers be of losing Cozier-Duberry to the Molineux outfit?
Why Wolves may be easier sell to Cozier-Duberry than Rangers
Having just been relegated from the Premier League, Wolves are hoping to win an instant promotion straight back there in 2026-27.
Under the new management of Cesar Peixoto, Wanderers have made just the four new signings to their squad so far this summer.
Where Cozier-Duberry's main position is concerned, the right wing, Wolves aren't blessed with depth there.
Rodrigo Gomes is currently the starting option, but he's not an out-and-out right winger by trade, as he's capable of playing on either side and even at wing-back.
As a result, they don't really have a natural player in this position, which is why if Cozier-Duberry signed, he'd have a great chance of becoming an instant starter.
The same perhaps can't be said if he was to join Rangers, especially after Gers have recently brought in Daisuke Yokota from Hannover.
McInnes also has the likes of Ross McCrorie, Thelo Aasgaard, Ross McCausland, Findlay Curtis and Djeidi Gassama who can all play on the right too.
Rangers dropping out of the Europa League will also be a blow to their attractiveness too.
So, with Wolves being closer to home, having less competition for minutes and offering a route back to the Premier League, Rangers could have their work cut out convincing Cozier-Duberry now.
