What Rangers plan next after unwanted Dan Purdy exit

Rangers' next steps have been outlined following the unexpected exit of recruitment chief Dan Purdy.

Purdy had only been in the behind-the-scenes role at Ibrox for 15 months, having followed Kevin Thelwell from Everton.

Thelwell was gone within half a year, but Purdy stayed on and has overseen some hectic transfer windows at Ibrox.

Not least this summer as 14 new signings were made in yet another squad overhaul.

And it appears Rangers did not want the technical director to depart, with the decision his own.

Having potentially been blindsided, it is already known what steps Rangers will take next.

Will Rangers hire replacement for Dan Purdy?

Purdy oversaw a remarkable 30 transfers at Rangers in the space of just 18 months.

Some have been massive flops, some have been successes, while for many the jury is still out - particularly those signed this summer.

According to a report from the Daily Record on Friday, it was Purdy's decision to step down from the position.

Rangers tried to talk him out of doing so, but his departure has now been officially announced.

The same report claims that, as things stand, there are no current plans to replace Purdy.

Who will now oversee Rangers transfer matters?

There has always been a feeling Rangers have had too many people overseeing transfer matters - and very little success to show for it, relatively speaking.

As things currently stand, performance director Stig Inge Bjornebye and chief exec Jim Gillespie are the two men still in place.

There is also Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe, who sign off on any deals.

Realistically, Rangers cannot continue in their current manner of constantly overhauling the squad.

So it may well make sense to just stick with things as they are for the time being following Purdy's unexpected exit.

Purdy departed with the best wishes of Rangers on Friday, with those behind the scenes believing he did a good job.

Judgement should surely be reserved, however, until we see how this summer's signings work out.
