Something strange is happening at Rangers after Cammy Devlin latest, truth is needed
Rangers are progressing in their pursuit of former Hearts midfielder Cammy Devlin.
The 28-year-old has now officially left the Jambos following the expiration of his contract.
Following in the footsteps of striker Lawrence Shankland and boss Derek McInnes, Devlin could become the third to make the same switch to Ibrox this summer.
Suffering from an ankle injury at the season's midway point, Devlin would be limited to 28 appearances last time out, though he did prove crucial for Hearts in their title push.
McInnes' side came within touching distance of lifting the title, before they fell to defeat against Celtic on the final day.
Aiming to win Rangers' first title since 2021, McInnes could look to do so with another key cog of his Hearts side, but the direction may just be slightly puzzling.
Do Rangers need Cammy Devlin after recent transfer business?
Rangers have started the transfer window like a house on fire.
Shankland, Ross McRorie, Ben Godfrey, Dan Neil and Ivor Pandur have all arrived, while the Gers will not be stopping there.
Neil, a centre-midfielder by trade, arrives as a free agent, with the 24-year-old very highly rated down south.
Alongside this, the Gers have been linked with moves for Bologna skipper Lewis Ferguson, Sturm Graz midfielder Ryan Fosso and Partizan Belgrade star Vanja Dragojevic.
Is Devlin really needed alongside these?
Nicolas Raskin has been linked with a move away, but the Govan side may have to make more changes than initially envisaged, if their transfer directive really is to add so many midfielders.
Rangers have a more urgent issue that they must address in transfer market
With recent links in mind, the midfield is seemingly an important area that Rangers are looking to address, albeit strange.
But, there are issues in the final third that simply must be considered as the season approaches.
Last term, the Gers were extremely disappointing in wider areas, with Danny Rohl never quite settling on a consistent pairing.
Now, with it looking unlikely that Mikey Moore returns to Ibrox, a left-sided attacker in particular is crucial this summer.
The midfield revamp has also been needed, but attentions can surely go elsewhere now, especially to the lingering problem out on the flanks.
Devlin may represent good value for money, but McInnes will need to seriously clear the decks if he wants to continue strengthening elsewhere.
Rangers fans will be slightly worried until the narrative changes, or they're told what the actual plan is for next season.
