Cammy Devlin's verdict on Lawrence Shankland as Rangers reunion looms after Hearts update
Cammy Devlin has officially left Hearts in a new update amid speculation of a move to Rangers.
The Aussie was with his nation for the World Cup and was always set to make a decision on his future once he returned home.
Devlin had already reached the expiration of his contract with the Jambos, though the club remained keen to keep him at Tyneside.
However, Hearts have now confirmed that the player has missed the deadline set out to re-sign with the club, as he'll join a new side this summer.
Derek McInnes was a big fan of the midfielder last season and may want a reunion with him at Ibrox.
Not just him, though, as Lawrence Shankland may want Devlin to come to Rangers in what would technically be a triple Hearts raid from the Bears.
Cammy Devlin and Lawrence Shankland once jokingly called 'boyfriends'
There is a belief that Rangers may have already held talks with Devlin and his entourage, according to Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson.
Hearts' chosen successor for McInnes, Wouter Vrancken, recently admitted he left Devlin a message about contract talks.
However, the Jambos confirmed the exit of the 28-year-old, who is now free to talk with any club he wishes.
Devlin may want a move to Ibrox, especially because of his relationship with Shankland, someone he is very close with.
Speaking about their relationship earlier last season after both being sidelined through injury, Devlin opened up about their relationship together.
He said, as quoted by the Daily Record: "Shanks has been brilliant – he’s probably dealt with it better than me. I barely spoke for two weeks, and he was texting me, checking in.
“Me and Shanks got injured around the same time and had similar timelines, so we’ve pushed each other. We were close before, but even more so now – our partners joke that we’re like boyfriends"
It's safe to say the two are good friends, as Rangers' interest in the former Hearts man has now been made official.
Sky Sports Scotland drop Devlin update as other clubs circle
Shortly after Devlin's departure from Hearts was announced, Sky Sports Scotland revealed that Rangers are indeed keen on signing him.
While it's not known if the Bears have offered the midfielder a contract, he does have other offers on the table.
According to Edinburgh News, he has attention from MLS clubs Chicago Fire and Seattle Sounders, with the latter already being reported to be the leaders in the chase.
Now that Rangers are interested, it could be that Devlin chooses to stay in Scotland, as a reunion with McInnes and Shankland is possible.
