Rangers have seen a formal bid to sign Almeria centre-back Kaiky rejected, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Writing via his personal X account on Friday (23 August), Romano reported that the Gers made a loan-to-buy offer for the 20-year-old Brazilian.

It is understood that the Light Blues offered a £630,000 loan fee plus a permanent fee of £5.9million and then a 30 per cent sell-on clause. However, Romano claims that the bid was turned down by Almeria, who were relegated from La Liga last season.

Rangers submit loan-to-buy bid for Kaiky

Romano doesn't say whether Rangers' bid for Kaiky included an option-to-buy clause or whether that £5.9million fee was an obligation.

Philippe Clement is no doubt frustrated by this and probably has to offload players before he's able to bring any in.

That's why Almeria have probably turned that down because while they'd get a loan fee for Kaiky, they probably doubt they'd get that £5.9million next year as it would possibly depend on the Light Blues winning the Scottish Premiership title and qualifying for the Champions League group stage.
