Todd Cantwell was trending on X on Tuesday night after the Rangers star posted an Instagram story that seems to take a swipe at the club's support.

Cantwell, 26, hasn't played a competitive game for the Light Blues so far this season after handing in a transfer request to manager Philippe Clement.

Some clubs have been linked with signing the ex-Norwich star with Cardiff City among the first to be mentioned by the media [Scottish Sun]. However, there hasn't been anything concrete since the midfielder's transfer request was announced before the new Scottish Premiership season started.

Todd Cantwell in yet another Rangers social media controversy

Cantwell's relationship with fans has always been a weird one.

Since arriving in January 2023, he's had the odd good game and fans had been rather patient with the English attacking midfielder as there was clear potential being shown.

However, a tendency to do more talking on social media than on the pitch - leading to Chris Sutton dubbing him 'TikTok Todd' - saw him start to alienate members of the Ibrox support before eventually burning bridges altogether with that request to leave Govan this summer.

And it's his Instagram activity on Tuesday (20 August) that has fans talking about Cantwell again with the midfielder taking to his personal account to share a five-second-long video on his story.

Basically, the reel he's shared shows a lone fan sitting in the stands with the caption "the support" written over it. It then transitions into a packed crowd with the caption changing to: "The congratulations."

It seems like a dig at fans.

Cantwell looks like he's saying he gets next to no support at Rangers but when he does something good, he has everyone on his side.

It's not true, though. Fans always backed him, even though they really knew that ex-Celtic striker Sutton was always right about a player who struggled for goals on the pitch but kept scoring own-goals off it.

But, as mentioned, he's burnt bridges now. Why should the Gers fanbase support a player who doesn't want to be there and offered very little - next to nothing - when he was playing?
