Rangers have already made plans for the winter transfer window.

The Gers have spent heavily since Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises' takeover, signing 14 players in the summer.

With the Light Blues investing around £35million recently, Derek McInnes is finally starting to bring out the best in the squad he has.

There are still certain departments at Ibrox that could arguably do with a bit more depth in January.

At centre-back, with John Souttar not in the Scottish manager's plans, a replacement may be needed at the turn of the year.

A £16m share issue was completed in the summer to fund squad planning, and another one will be needed soon.

Will Rangers sign new players in January?

Rangers' recruitment compared to Celtic looks much better as the season has progressed.

The Gers look like a better team than their Glaswegian counterparts, dominating them in back-to-back Old Firm derbies.

Ivor Pandur, Olwethu Makhanya, James Penrice, Dan Neil, Minsu Kim and Kevin Kelsy have become crucial players for McInnes at Ibrox.

The Light Blues are yet to see some of their other summer signings live up to expectations and will surely be counting on them for the rest of the season.

During the latest meeting between the Govan side's hierarchy and the Fan Advisory Board, the club weren't expecting much activity in January unless they are forced to go into the market.

The need for another share issue was raised, which will be required later in the season, but it remains to be seen what it will fund.

Why Ibrox hierarchy can't take transfer risk under Derek McInnes

Everything seems to be going well under McInnes right now, but there's no guarantee of success at Rangers.

As things stand, the Gers will be seen as favourites in the domestic competitions after thoroughly beating Celtic in two games.

The Hoops are still top of the Scottish Premiership and Martin O'Neill has been in close title fights before.

Another couple of injuries at Ibrox, especially in defence, could leave McInnes with a crisis.

If anything were to happen to Dujon Sterling, Emmanuel Fernandez and Makhanya, there would undoubtedly be question marks over the Govan side's defensive solidity.

Signing another centre-back should be on the Light Blues' agenda, but it remains to be seen how they go about things in January.
