Rangers could still sign Chelsea youngster Aaron Anselmino after a move to Marseille broken down, according to The Scottish Sun.

The Sun reported in their live transfer blog (3 February, 1:55pm) that the Bears could re-enter the fray for the defender, having fallen behind Sheffield Wednesday and Marseille in the race to sign him on loan.

Chelsea remain keen to ship the 19-year-old out on loan before Monday's 11pm deadline after Marseille's protracted move for Anselmino was called off, potentially allowing Gers to step up their own interest.

Aaron Anselmino transfer can complete Rangers business

Though the Light Blues entered January with Philippe Clement unsure of how much money he'd be able to spend on incoming transfers, they enter February with a Europa League windfall in their kitty [Gordon Duncan, 3 February].

Finishing in the Europa League's top eight places – thus qualifying for the last 16 – gives them £10m in total revenue from the league phase campaign, and Clement will hope that goes straight into the budget.

Although the Gers have signed reinforcements in central defence to accomodate for the injuries suffered by John Souttar and Feyenoord loanee Neraysho Kasanwirjo, there is still work to be done at the back.

Clement won't turn down the chance to sign a highly-rated and versatile defender like Anselmino as he also eyes up two central midfield additions [Scottish Daily Mail, 3 February], and the former's availability will certainly appeal.

Bringing in a young South American has worked well based on Jefte's form, and adding Anselmino to the Ibrox backline would give Clement an embarrassment of riches ahead of the business end of the season.
