Rangers have seen the race to sign Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl quieten down this week.

Many believed that Cardiff were close to a breakthrough, but that never happened for the Norweigian maestro.

Derek McInnes is busy preparing for Rangers' season opener on Friday against Dundee United at Tannadice.

He'll likely do so with signing number seven, Vanja Dragojevic, who was the third midfielder through the door at Ibrox.

They have reported that Tromso have submitted a counter-proposal to that, thought Cardiff are yet to respond.

So, it only proves that the door is still fully open for Hjerto-Dahl to make the move to Ibrox if Rangers make it happen.

What next for Rangers?

It's very clear that Hjerto-Dahl would be a late arrival if Rangers proceed with their previous interest.

That's if the midfielder holds out too, with other clubs making their moves.

Rangers have switched their attentions to Philadelphia Union defender Olwethu Makhanya, who is set to become signing number eight.

Then, it's all on wingers.

Oliver Antman is set to join Anderlecht this week, with the likes of Ross McCausland also likely to leave.

McInnes won't want any clear holes in his squad at Ibrox, so sorting those key areas will be critical before adding some more quality.
