Rangers' bid to re-sign Vaclav Cerny has hit a stumbling block.

Cerny, 28, impressed during a loan spell at Ibrox in the 2024-25 season, scorring 18 goals and supplying nine assists in 52 appearances across all competitions.

However, last summer, the Gers were unable to land the Czechia international from Wolfsburg and, instead, he joined Besiktas for around £8million.

Rangers are now being linked with Cerny again, but the finances of the deal are not favourable for the Scottish Premiership club.

The Light Blues have spent around £24m on new signings so far this summer, with a net spend of £11.8m after the sales of players like Oliver Antman, Jack Butland and Mohamed Diomande.

However, despite that relatively low sum, a deal for Cerny is seemingly out of reach, based on the latest news coming out of Turkey.

What Rangers and Vaclav Cerny are both saying about a reunion

It's already been reported that Cerny has told Besiktas he doesn't want to leave this summer amid increasing interest from Rangers.

In his debut season in Istanbul, the ex-Gers forward played 30 times in the Turkish Super Lig, scoring five goals and supplying eight assists.

They've got a good chance of making the league phase of the Europa League and will likely challenge for silverware domestically.

Rangers, on the other hand, are hoping to qualify for the Conference League and if recent seasons - and the performances so far this term - are anything to go by, winning anything will be yet another stretch for the Govan side.

Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu has now reported that Rangers themselves have also backed out of a deal for Cerny.

""I spoke with the Rangers side. They inquired about Cherny. But they said it's not a financially or morally feasible transfer for us," he said, as shown in a video clip on X.

Why Vaclav Cerny to Rangers transfer has now been deemed a 'no-brainer'

What's next for Rangers in the transfer window?

Since the end of last season, Rangers have signed 11 new players.

Usually, when that happens, a squad is expected to take quite a while to get settled down and start performing in harmony.

However, on top of that, the manager has changed with Derek McInnes replacing Danny Rohl and senior players like James Tavernier and Butland have left, compounding the issue.

Rangers are in a state of flux and need to time to gel - but it's time they don't have because European football hinges on it, as well as getting off to a good start in the Scottish Premiership.

Is it time for the Gers to settle on what they've got?

It's likely going to depend on any more potential outgoings with Nicolas Raskin and Emmanuel Fernandez's futures still up for debate.
