Manuel Pellegrini's role in Rangers transfer as Nicolas Raskin 'marked in red'

Manuel Pellegrini could sign Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin at Real Betis this summer.

The former Manchester City boss, who won the Premier League title in the 2013-14 campaign, may soon have the Belgium international in his ranks.

Derek McInnes is clearly expecting the 25-year-old's sale, considering the midfield additions the Gers have made in the transfer window.

Betis are interested in Raskin, who's ready to take a competitive leap from Ibrox.

The Belgian star's current contract at the Glaswegian outfit expires in 2028 and now feels like the right time to sell him.

Raskin has been followed by the LaLiga outfit for months and it remains to be seen whether they can get a deal over the line for him.

Ibrox News have covered reports that Andrew Cavenagh wants more than £20million for Raskin.

Betis want to implement a significant overhaul of their engine room and have set their sights on the Gers' midfielder.

According to ElDesmarque on 28 July, Pellegrini wants a more defensive profile for the Spanish club's midfield, who have identified Raskin as one of their top targets, "marked in red" by the recruitment department.

While the Belgium international is seen as the ideal option by Betis, only time will tell whether they can afford him.

Palmeiras' Emiliano Martinez, a Uruguay international, has also been identified by the LaLiga side as an alternative.

Roma are also interested in Raskin as Rangers are surely expecting plenty of offers for him.

There has also been talk of Premier League interest in the Belgian ace, who caught the attention of many with his performances at the World Cup.

The Gers signed the midfielder for £1.5m from Standard Liege in January 2023 and are in line for a hefty profit.

One thing seems certain - Raskin won't be part of McInnes' plans for next season as Dan Neil, Cammy Devlin and Vanja Dragojevic look to make their mark at Ibrox.

Mohamed Diomande and Connor Barron are also at the Scottish manager's disposal, giving him plenty of options to replace the Belgium international.
