Jim White reacts to news of next Rangers signing live on talkSPORT

Jim White is fascinated to see if Kevin Kelsy will be a hit at Rangers.

Starting with Lawrence Shankland back in May, Rangers have made 12 new signings so far this summer.

Derek McInnes is hoping that number will have risen before Thursday's 5pm deadline.

The next one through the Ibrox door is set to be Kelsy, with the striker joining from Major League Soccer side Portland Timbers.

He will be under big pressure to get Gers' attack firing too, which is something White has been reacting to on Tuesday.

What has Jim White said about Kevin Kelsy's move to Rangers?

It was revealed on Tuesday that Kelsy is now in Glasgow to complete his move to Rangers.

With Youssef Chermiti a long-term injury absentee now, he will look to partner up with Shankland to lead an early-season Rangers revival.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday morning, White read out some quotes from former Portland Timbers manager Phill Neville about the sort of player Kelsy is.

"Phil Neville has worked with him (Kelsy) in the past and said, 'I spoke to Rangers last week and I said if you get him, you'll get someone who isn't quite the finished article'," White said.

"(Neville continued) But if you give him lots of love and help him develop, he could be a star'.

"Well, we'll see if that all happens and it works out at Ibrox."

So, with Kelsy on the verge of moving to Govan, might Rangers consider bringing his old coach with him?

Why Neville could be highly useful coach to bring onboard at Rangers

Neville ended his two-and-a-half-year tenure as Portland Timbers manager in May this year, after being appointed in November 2023.

His time in charge didn't go to plan, but with Kelsy having joined the Timbers in January last year, the ex-Man United and Everton defender had a big part in his rise.

Kelsy has established himself as a top striker in MLS in 2026, and with Neville now a free agent, he could really help Rangers get the best out of him.

In addition to that, given his reputation in the game and his coaching experience in Europe and the USA, the 49-year-old will have plenty of contacts.

It would certainly be a fascinating strategy for Rangers to employ.
