How Rangers defence could shape up as Dujon Sterling transfer truth emerges
Rangers defender Dujon Sterling has been the subject of plenty of speculation in the final days of the transfer window.
The right-back has been linked with an exit from the Gers after three years at the club.
As things stand, the 26-year-old Englishman's contract at the Light Blues expires at the end of the season.
With Kosta Nedeljkovic arriving at Ibrox from Aston Villa, Bristol City have emerged as a potential destination for Sterling.
The former Chelsea defender has been a key player for Derek McInnes at the start of the 2026-27 campaign.
However, with the Glaswegian outfit making multiple additions at right-back, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the injury-prone Englishman.
Will Bristol City sign Dujon Sterling from Rangers?
There was certainly some concern around Sterling's role at Ibrox earlier this summer as the Gers looked for a new right-back, but McInnes seems to trust him.
The Light Blues are in desperate need of James Tavernier's successor and it will be interesting to see who will step up this season.
It looks like Nedeljkovic, Sterling and Ross McCrorie will be competing for a place at right-back under the Scottish manager.
Rangers Review Joshua Barrie has dismissed rumours of the Glaswegian outfit's defender being a target for Bristol.
While some fans may want to see Sterling leave due to frustration around his persistent fitness issues, it looks like he's here to stay for now.
Speaking on the Rangers Review on 21 August, Barrie said, "I think there are some links of Sterling to Bristol in recent days, but told there's no truth in that."
What this means for Ross McCrorie at Ibrox
McCrorie joined Rangers from Bristol and will surely want to prove himself in G51 after coming through the ranks at Auchenhowie.
The Scottish defender's initial displays under McInnes have been underwhelming and it remains to be seen whether he can get regular opportunities going forward.
Nedeljkovic and Sterling seem ahead of McCrorie in the pecking order as things stand.
What could work in the 28-year-old's favour is his versatility to play across the backline and in central midfield.
While there may be no place for the ex-Bristol ace at right-back, he may be able to find minutes elsewhere on the pitch.
