Dujon Sterling has his own transfer decision to make as Rangers target Bryan Reynolds
Dujon Sterling will once again be pushed down the pecking order at Ibrox if Rangers manage to sign Westerlo full-back, Bryan Reynolds.
The Bears are actively trying to find their replacement for James Tavernier, who left the club after an 11-year stay in Glasgow.
The 34-year-old had a reported bust-up with Danny Rohl, who was quick to shut that narrative down, as the player allegedly stormed out of Ibrox before what would have been his final home game against Hibernian.
Nevertheless, the Gers are looking to land the successor to their club captain in what will be a competitive summer transfer market.
The Light Blues lodged a £2.1million bid to sign Reynolds from Belgian side Westerlo, who were quick to knock the offer back.
However, with Rangers internally ready to launch another attempt to sign the USA international, Sterling's prospects at Ibrox once again look bleak.
Dujon Sterling may ask to leave Rangers this summer
Sterling has had a turbulent time at Rangers since joining from Chelsea in the summer of 2023.
A horrific leg injury kept him out of playing for a long time before he made a stunning comeback to action last season.
However, the Englishman still seems to be out of favour under Rohl, which is slightly unfair on his potential as a player.
His struggles are there to see, and if Rangers do sign Reynolds, Sterling may look to seek his own exit route.
There's a good chance that Sterling would be replaced by the 24-year-old, who has been highly rated by every club he's been with.
Roma released an opinion article on his abilities after signing him in February of 2021, describing him as "jet-heeled" and "athletic", traits Sterling has since lost after his injury.
When does Sterling's contract expire?
Sterling was always seen as a long-term signing when arriving from Chelsea in 2023, but it just hasn't worked out for all parties so far.
The 26-year-old has only won one trophy with the Bears in three seasons, and Rohl is adamant about his need for more leaders in the group.
While Reynolds could one day write a legend as good as Tavernier, Sterling will want to make his own story, and not just sit on the bench.
His contract expires in 2028, so any exit would have to be mutually agreed upon, though that is unlikely, as Rangers will want a fee for his departure.
Instead, Gers and the player could agree for him to be transfer listed, with a possibility of interest in Scotland and England for his services.
