How Frank Lampard holds key to next Rangers transfer after Olwethu Makhanya

Rangers may need a helping hand from Coventry City boss Frank Lampard when it comes to adding to their attacking ranks.

The Gers have been very active once again this summer, with seven news faces already through the door at Ibrox.

Philadelphia Union centre-back Olwethu Makhanya is about to make that eight new signings.

As covered by Ibrox News on Monday, Makhanya is set to be announced by Rangers before the end of Wednesday.

Derek McInnes' rebuild is not finished there as a new winger is now likely to be targeted.

Plenty of names have been linked, Vaclav Cerny among them, but it may be a Coventry player that is turned to.

Jahnoah Markelo to Rangers rumours addressed

Talk emerged on Monday of Coventry winger Jahnoah Markelo being a name of interest to Rangers.

Coventry Live addressed those rumours on Tuesday, reaching the verdict that Lampard likely does not deem the 23-year-old ready for the Premier League.

Markelo arrived at Coventry in the winter transfer window but played just five matches before the end of the season, averaging 10 minutes a time.

The Dutchman's situation is not expected to improve now the Sky Blues have been promoted, but Lampard will need to sign off on any exit.

Rangers' interest is said to be centred around a possible season-long loan deal.

Could Rangers move for Markelo hinge on Amario Cozier-Duberry?

There is no doubt that, for all the Gers' spending this month, McInnes is still short of options out wide.

Rangers are looking at Brighton's Amario Cozier-Duberry, though it is not clear whether it is a loan deal or permanent deal they are after.

Cozier-Duberry would likely be the priority of the two, with Markelo more of an unknown quantity.

If nothing else, however, it is good news Rangers are being linked with more and more wide options ahead of the season beginning.

All that remains now is for one of these deals to get pushed over the line.
