Connor Barron could face an uncertain future at Rangers this summer.

The 23-year-old has faced a mixed spell at Ibrox since his free transfer from Aberdeen in 2024.

He has gone on to make over 80 appearances for the Light Blues and was a regular towards the end of last season.

Danny Rohl utilised him in the final weeks of the campaign as title hopes faded away.

Things may not be so straightforward under Derek McInnes as the new manager has his own say on proceedings.

Pre-season is underway for the Scot and that may not make way for good news for players like Barron.

Connor Barron could be transfer makeweight at Rangers

There has already been plenty of business done in G51 at this early stage of the window.

The Gers have welcomed six fresh faces with Cammy Devlin being the most recent in a move from Hearts.

Dan Neil has also come in on a free transfer to add to the midfield conversation.

It doesn't appear that McInnes is done there as he continues to target further additions in the centre of the park.

The Daily Record reported on Monday that the Gers want at least one new midfielder with Vanja Dragojevic and Jens-Hjerto-Dahl currently being looked at.

The Scottish outlet say that sales will be required before one of these two can come in, with Barron attracting interest this summer.

Although a departure is yet to be arranged, it does appear that it could be in the pipeline.

Barron exit hint drops during Rangers pre-season

It doesn't look like being a bright future for the ex-Aberdeen midfielder in Govan.

The transfer latest won't be good for his chances and that is summed up by the start of pre-season.

Rangers faced South African outfit Kaiser Chiefs on Sunday, but Barron wasn't involved in the 1-1 draw.

Neil was interestingly named as captain while Tochi Chukwuani and Mohammed Diomande featured in midfield.

That could represent the end of the road for Barron at Ibrox as he could prove to be the makeweight for either Dragojevic or Hjerto-Dahl, while also getting a great personal opportunity.

Either of those could represent a step up for McInnes' side, but is a bitter blow for the Scot.
