Dundee blast disgraceful Kris Boyd comments about Leigh Griffiths ahead of Rangers game

Dundee have branded Kris Boyd's comments about Leigh Griffiths a "disgrace" after he was stopped from covering the Rangers game on Saturday.

Boyd was supposed to be working for Sky Sports as the Gers beat the Dark Blues 1-0 at Dens Park. However, the Daily Record claims he had to cover the Premiership fixture from a broadcast truck outside the ground.

Writing on the Scottish Sun website last week, Boyd said that Griffiths should brace himself for relentless abuse from Rangers fans after he kicked a smoke bomb into a crowd of St Johnstone fans.

Dundee, who signed the striker on loan from Celtic in the summer, clearly took offence to Boyd's words and a source at Dens Park has told the Glasgow Evening Times: "He was at the game on Saturday but he was meant to do post-match interviews. We informed Sky we wouldn't be speaking to him and they sent a replacement for post-match stuff. 

"It was a pretty quick call to make on Saturday morning. 

"His piece was a disgrace so it wouldn't be a surprise if we denied him access next time."

Warranted?

Everyone is going to point at this and then also bring up the fact that Chris Sutton and Neil Lennon were denied access to Ibrox earlier this month.

It was allegedly a security concern that led to the two ex-Celtic men being able to work for BT Sport - but it wouldn't be a shock if there was an ulterior motive behind it.

As for Boyd, it's fairly obvious why he was denied access to Dens Park.

He was very strong in his attack on Griffiths, essentially telling the on-loan Celtic striker that karma will catch up on him when he's relentlessly abused by Rangers fans.

It's a bit much, isn't it?

Lennon has acted up at Ibrox in the past and wound up Rangers fans while Sutton has acted as the king's jester on BT Sport by trying his best to rile up the Gers.

We don't recall Sutton saying or doing anything comparable to what Boyd said about Griffiths so we can kind of see why Dundee didn't let him in.

Either way, Sutton said a "dangerous precedent" was being set by Rangers when they barred him and Lennon from Ibrox.

It now seems that other clubs aren't afraid to do it either.

In other Rangers news, Sutton dubbed the banter “horrible” after Ally McCoist mocked him for a recent drama.
