Kris Boyd: Rangers fans will bombard Leigh Griffiths with abuse at Dundee today

Kris Boyd expects Rangers fans to bombard Leigh Griffiths with abuse when Steven Gerrard’s side play Dundee at Dens Park on Saturday.

Griffiths, who is on loan at Dundee from Celtic, is in hot water after kicking a smoke bomb at St Johnstone fans earlier this week.

Police have reportedly charged the striker with “culpable and reckless conduct” and Boyd expects him to endure a tough ride at Dens Park on Saturday.

“Karma has a way of catching up with people,” Boyd wrote on the Scottish Sun website.

“Leigh Griffiths is about to find that out the hard way at Dens Park.

“He was laughing when he tied that Celtic scarf to one of the goalposts at Ibrox a few seasons back.

“Grinning from ear to ear during an Old Firm game the day he waved his Irish tricolour from the Broomloan Road Stand.

“When he wiped his nose on a Rangers corner flag he thought he was being clever.

“Well, let’s see how smart he is when Rangers supporters tell him what they think of him.

“Griffiths is about to get bombarded with 90 minutes of relentless abuse and if he’s got a brain in that head of his he better be prepared to take it.”

Strong words

Griffiths deserves to be criticised.

It’s not the first time the controversial striker has found himself in trouble after he booted a smoke bomb at a stand containing children earlier this week.

While the Saints fan who threw the smoke bomb onto the pitch should be punished, there’s absolutely no excuse for Griffiths doing what he did and his apology is absolutely ridiculous.

He will be the subject of abuse on Saturday but we hope that people don’t take it too far, to the point where the media ends up scrutinising Rangers fans rather than the player who did something really dangerous towards St Johnstone fans this week.

Rangers should win this game.

Dundee could be without Charlie Adam for the game but even with the ex-Bear, they should be able to ease to a victory.

We’ve had a mixed start to the season but Dundee are a team we really should be breezing past.

In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton dubbed the banter “horrible” after Ally McCoist mocked him for a recent drama.
